excellent early snow in the Grand Massif
Saturday, December 24th, 2011
The first week of the season has been the best conditions I have encountered in the 10 years we have been skiing in the Grand Massif. We have spent the last week skiing powder every day. With snow depths between 30cm and 2.4 metres, there is a really good base, it bodes well for the rest of the season.

Bearded Vulture seen in Les Carroz
Thursday, March 31st, 2011
During a recent visit to Chalet des Tronchets we were graced with the presence of a very large bird. One of the party identified it as a bearded vulture, also known as a lammergeyer or, in French, a Barbu. According to information on the internet, there is only about 200 of these birds in Europe. They have a wing span of about 9 feet and feed on bones. If a bone is too big they will carry it into the air and then drop it onto rocks to break it into edible portions. Not sure what this fellow was after but there was a small dog running around!Tags: Add new tag, bearded vulture, les carroz

Snow sure resort status confirmed at Les Carroz (Grand Massif)
Friday, February 12th, 2010
More snow than you can shake a stick at is what springs to mind. With snow depths of up to 3 metres in the Grand Massif there is certainly plenty of the white stuff. Yesterday we had great piste skiing in Les Carroz and Flaine and superb off piste at Gers, Flaine, Vernant and Airon bowl. Temperatures are very low at present so keeping the snow in really good condition with super soft powder off piste.

Its snowing
Monday, November 30th, 2009

Lots of snow overnight in Les Carroz and the rest of the Grand Massif ski area. Its been snowing all day today and more forecast tommorrow and later in the week. Had to clear the drive at chalet andelain twice today, first test of the quad/snowplough, it worked very well, suspect there may be a few volunteers to help. Its now looking good for the opening of the lifts on the 19th december. Meanwhile it will be skins on and walking up to get a ski back down.

New toy

Practising in the garden
Nicola has bought me a new toy or should I say a tool as the excuse is that I am going to fit a snow plough for clearing the drive in the winter. Meanwhile I have to blast around on it so that it is run in ready to start work when the snow arrives.
